This is something worth looking into. I could totally use a remote to turn on my laptop. It would be a total time saver in some instances.
If your laptop doesn't already have a remote it might not work. Most of the apps are meant to let your phone replace an existing remote.

If you want to turn devices on and off automatically and don't have the funds for echo or google home, there's always IFTTT, although be careful of the security on that!
