Can anyone give me any tips or advice on how to de-solder components from a circuit board? I need to replace a relay but I haven't had very much luck in the past de-soldering things. Any suggestions?

Use a desoldering wick. Desoldering is harder than soldering, so just work at it. Sometimes you can get enough to work out the device and once free, you can do a final cleaning of the PCB lands.

Hi, If you need to do this often (like me) then check out something like the BK4000 desoldering tool from Circuit Specialists. They are often discounted to about $50. Replacement tips, guns etc are also available. Mine works like a champ. A cheaper solution is the bulb type desoldering tools. Often in the $10-15 range. They do require some skill to use though.
