Humming sound while recording cds [message #82132]

I just recently purchased a Tascam cd recorder that I hooked up to my amp. I keep getting a humming sound through the speakers that goes away when I unhook the rca cables. Will this sound have any affect on the recording process and if so, how can I get rid of it?

Is it a new recorder? Are the RCA cables new?

Even if new, try another set of cables. If that doesn't fix the problem, connect the Tascam to something else and see if it hums.

You can find the source of the problem by a process of elimination.

With problems like this I start with the easiest possible solutions first and work my way up. Whatever the issue, it gets resolved quickly this way.

Thanks for the suggestions. The cd recorder is used, but my friend bought it about a year ago and never used it that much. He didn't have any RCA cables for it, so I just used what I had lying around. I'll start with those first.
