I really have wondered about this. In the PI bass bins why is the woofer placed in the middle of the box. Why isn't it placed lower, and closer to the junction of the side walls and the floor? My guesses are because of the length of the lower frequencies placement doesn't matter, and probably that the box is more stable acoustically when the woofer is in the middle. Inquiring minds want to know.

Some of the bass bins over the years were designed with the woofer placed physically lower. Most though, it has been placed in or near near the middle. Truth is, the bandwidth makes it not matter all that much, and the upper limit prevents internal standing waves from being a problem.
