Hey, anybody here ever played with 6AS7G for SET outputs? Seems like it would make a fine stereo amplifier but I don't see many DIY designs around it. Alma-sphere likes it for their OTL amps but I'm thinking it might be nice for a SET amp too. Whatdya all think?

I have not, but it is a cool looking tube. Uses a ton of heater current. What I have consistently heard is that it isn't very linear. Never looked at the curves myself - so don't know for sure.

Ever heard Atma-Sphere amps? They use boatloads of that tube.

Yep, I have heard them, now that you mention it. Totally different application then a SET, which is what you were asking about. Sure look nice all lined up, and very inexpensive. So heck, give em a try! I think you'll end up having to run both halves in parallel, I don't remember off hand the plate R, but was thinking it is really low, so you may need a purpose built output transformer.

Hey, just looked them up. Only 13W plate dissipation and Rp is 280 ohms, oh my! So paralleled halves I guess you could run them to 26W (6 W output or so), but Rp would be 130? So you'd need an output transformer in the 600 ohm range, and gapped for a bunch of current. Still, could be done.
