We have a room that my son wants to make into a game and television room. One problem we have is that it is open to the kitchen area by way of a shared staircase. Only one wall is usable for the flat screen and sound system. How do I keep the sound from traveling outside of that room? There is no option of closing a door. The stairs are open to 3/4 of the way up the stairs.

Is there another room in the house you can put the game room in? Perhaps move the contents of one room into the proposed game room, and then put the game room in the newly vacated room that has a door.

We ended up putting the game room in a closed room in the basement. That way he can have his friends over and they aren't too loud upstairs. It worked out great and we are thinking of adding a music room next to it.

We have a room in the basement for our kids as well. It's great because it's on the other side of the house so if they are playing their games loud we don't hear it in the bedroom. We added speakers around the room to give them a surround sound feel to their games. They really enjoy it.
