Can someone verify this information for me? Prior to 1940, radio stations were not allowed to play commercially available records on air. Instead, they had to have musicians play live. Does that sound right?

I have never heard that. It is an interesting tidbit but I couldn't say for sure if it's true. Where did you get this information?

Hi I never heard of either. It may have been a matter of practicality. There were lots of musicians and not nearly as many records as we have now.
