It came out on December 15th in our area and we have already been to see it twice. 
The first time we went we didn't take the 8 year old, as I was concerned she might get scared by the trolls or the goblins. Once I was satisfied they weren't to scary for her we went again with both kids. I was pleasantly surprised that she sat still through the entire 3 hour film. We also managed to eat an entire large popcorn.
I would highly recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of the book. They are sticking very close to the book and adding a bit of backstory as well. We are all looking forward to the next installment.
