Auralex is selling a product called SheetBlok--AF, which is a thin sound isolation layer that is advertised to block sound more effectively than lead. You can even paint over it.

If anyone here tries it, let me know if it lives up to the hype.

I haven't tried it, but I've always been curious about these types of MLV (mass-loaded vinyl) products.

My opinion is that for most stationary-wall purposes, drywall construction is easier and cheaper. But for situations where space is a concern, or in cases where you need to form fit a non-flat surface, MLV seems like it would be real useful. For instance, I could see using it to line speaker cabinets.
