What I like cabinetmakers to do is to cut a ring that surrounds the baffle cutout both for the midwoofer and tweeter. This ring can be cut from scrap wood, and is only there to provide some extra thickness in the area where the router cuts into the baffle. Glue it in place behind the baffle, and install the T-Nuts or threaded inserts into it.

Is it safe to assume that this kind of support rings do not require any cabinet volume compensation?

That's right, no adjustment necessary. They don't displace much internal volume at all.

Sorry to belabor this, but I want to be sure to get the baffle recesses right. In the H290C picture below, it looks like the corner radius is about the same height as the top and bottom flanges which are about 0.8", right?

Yes, exactly. If you continue to rotate the curvature of the corner to form a full circle, it will have diameter of 1.6", e.g. radius of 0.8".
