Last night I listened to the Chesky re-issue of Scheherazade, Reiner/CSO, 1960 side two, the side nobody plays much ;-} The dynamics of that recording are astounding, from unable to hear entrances over ambient noise to lease-breaking climaxes at the same volume setting. And the tone!

So this morning, being in a mood for more dynamics, I U-tubed several versions of Shostakovich' Symphony #5 which led me to find an NM (I hope) copy of the Melodiya recording on E-Bay with Maxim, the son, conducting.

I really miss playing in an orchestra!
