I am sure there are other parents here, what do you do when kids (not your own) are in your house and not obeying the house rules? Are they no longer welcome? What happens when said kid is a family member and the parents are useless as far as proper discipline? We have a serious issue going on now with an out of control niece.

This is between you and the parents. Your only choices are to tolerate the bad behavior or to discuss the problem with the child's parents (or possibly with the parent who is your relative). If you are married or living with somebody, and the child is your partner's relative, then your partner is the one who should initiate the discussion.

You should describe the bad behavior with specific examples, being critical of the behavior but not condemning the child, and tell the parent the behavior must stop. If this is unsuccessful, then your only choice is to tell them the child is no longer welcome at your house. They probably will be defensive and angry, but you will have done the right thing.

If you try to please everybody you will please nobody.

It depends on how old the kids are. If they are older and they are misbehaving, then you speak to them. You lay down the law, list the rules of the house. They need to follow the rules. If they continue to not follow rules, they are no longer welcome.

If they are younger and family, then I believe you speak to their parents. It's up to them to keep their kids in line. The other parents need to follow and honor your house rules.
