I need to get some drumsticks for a buddy's birthday but I don't know what brands are good. I haven't been able to find out what he has, so I was hoping for some suggestions so at least I won't buy him some poor quality ones.

I think this all depends on if he wants a heavier or lighter sound on drums and cymbals. Pro Mark and Vic Firth are my favorites, Pro Mark being the lighter of the two (usually). Also, the wood and plastic tips make a big difference on how "bright" the sounds are on the cymbals. Hope this helps!
