If you are doing live sound or recording outside and there is a strong wind, how do you manage that so you don't end up with more white noise than anything?

You need to buy a blimp, which is essentially a windshield for the microphone. Be careful when you choose one, however, as some only fit specific microphones, while others are more universal.

Pull up a few You Tube videos of Pink Floyd. They did a bunch of stuff outside. You might get a few ideas from their vids.
