Hi Everyone, A diyer in Hungary took a Dual 701 motor and control assembly and built a chassis and a magnetically suspended tone arm for it. A truly great diy effort. Smile I edited the text for him and with Wayne's assistance posting it for you all.
here is the link to it

Just as I suspected.....PDF files last forever.

I'm glad I clicked on that. I wasn't expecting step by step instructions. That is just too cool for school.

HI, Since then I built my own TT from a aging Dual 701. The plinth is laminated wood pieces somewhat like what you would see in a table top. It is 1.25 inches thick and mounts on sorbanthe vibration dampers with the outer plinth mounted on equipment dampers with height adjusting screws. It all weighs about 30 pounds. The arm is a Jelco 370H and it currently has a Hana EL cartridge in it. The power supply that feeds the motor assembly (an ESD 1000 series) is external. Very quiet and stable. The ESD1000 has been re-capped as one of the original ones (from 1975) failed and I decided to replace all suspect ones. This is my main go to turntable as it is so consistent and easy to use. My others in use now are a modified Empire 598 and a modified Sota Moonbeam.

Hi, Thanks Wayne. It plays quite well also. The Jelco arm and Hana cartridge mate well with it. If we ever get back to LSAF I'll bring it. Or maybe the Empire 598/Origin Live/Dynavector Karat 23RS-MR....it's a killer as well.

How is it holding up? It looks professionally done. This is exactly the thing I want to do when I retire. Piddle my time away in the garage making things like that.

Hi, It is running perfectly. I use it as my main TT. No fuss no muss and really user friendly.
