Our choir's amplifier is in the fritz. We are trying to save to buy a new one. What is a good brand that will be good but won't break the band. This amplifier will only be used for one acoustic guitar and a bass.

I'd get a QSC or Crown amplifier. I've had good luck with both, and while they're not the cheapest on the market, they aren't real expensive either. A good solid state amplifier should last forever.

I agree with Wayne,
I'm a 'Crown' man myself, after using 8 different models and still owning some and using various models, check for deals on the Crown Cts series. Great for installs and they slam for clubs.

I personally am a dedicated QSC guy. I've had Peavey and Crown fail, but never QSC. Dozens of times, I've ran them cranked to the hilt, outdoors, all day long, on the hottest days of summer, with never so much as a whimper. They're also more open and transparent sounding than Peavey's CS series amps, which to my ears sound muddy, veiled, and "closed-in."

I've heard lots of Carvin power amps and they sound great, with similar transparency and clarity to QSC and Crown. But, while they are claimed to be extremely robust and dependable, I've heard mixed feedback about their reliability.

Heck then go with QSC. I never had a Crown fail me, I've thermaled the the old D and DC series outdoors in the summer before, but not what I run nowdays. But every amp has a certain sound.
On subs I could usally can tell if your running a Crest, Crown, QSC, Carver which suck, or in old dance clubs the old BGW's beside the top 3 mentioned.
