I'm not sure how long they were around as I was a kid, but we used to play music on 8 track tape cassettes. Does anyone remember those? I think it was before the advent of cassettes. These cassettes were huge in comparison.

I think a lot of us remember the 8-track tapes, thanks for the nostalgia. Razz I recall them being really popular in the early 1970s, although I could be a little off there. I think you're right though, it seems like the rise of regular cassettes phased them out.

I remember them too. My best friend had a Beach Boys 8 track cassette that we listened to all the time. I think it was Pet Sounds.

I never messed with 8 track cassettes too much; I mostly used standard cassettes. It may be because I was just a kid, but I had a hard time figuring out how 8 tracks worked.

Hi, I remember them. I even had an 8 Track recorder. I had a 75 Camaro Type LT that had one in it from the factory!

I remember those if you played them to much, they wore out because of the quality of the tape. If you had them in the sun too much, like on the dash of your car, well basically they became a chunk of plastic. 8-track cassette's were cheap quality.

Hi, Worse, even when they were new the wow and flutter was horrible. Cross talk between tracks was often a problem as well. Still considering the alternatives .... Rolling Eyes

Good Listening

An 8 track is just one more thing that my kids will never know what it is unless they are viewing one in a museum. I am amazed how things change so quick over time, I doubt they will know what a Walkman is either. Shocked

Do you think that'd be more or less expensive? Of course, it'd make it a lot harder to take away their electronics when they do something wrong.
