Have you heard about these? http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/glass-speakers-15-09-2010/ I know the article is a couple months old but I just ran across it and wanted to see what your thoughts were.

Seems really self-defeating.

Quote:
300Hz-15kHz frequency range

They mention you need a subwoofer, but come on, 20-300hz in mono is horrible. Subs require crossing over with the mains too. You can't brick wall the main speakers low frequencies and simply replace them with a sub. You gotta roll off the lower two octaves at -6 to -12 per octave.

I think sometimes vanity products muddy the water. Meaning someone gets something that is priced to be impressive or looks the part.

These things are a non-option for audio minded folks. They are for the people obsessed with home decor.

They make audiophile grade speakers made of glass if you really want the look. [thumbs through stereophile] a company called Crystal Cable makes a speaker called the Arabesque. Considering the source, the speakers are probably more expensive than a car though.

Yeah I caught the crappy frequency range too, which is why I wouldn't buy these, nice as they look. I just can't sacrifice that much low end.

The glass speakers sure looks cool but I don't think I will waste my money on those speakers. I wonder if those glasses will break with the right pitch to break it.

That only works with crystal and a strong specific resonate frequency.

While these do look great, I think most people would prefer good audio quality to something that's just pretty. There are other ways to decorate, but speakers are your only source for audio.
