There doesn't seem to be a shortage of tube amp kits or DIY designs available, but almost all of them are in the low power range. I want to build an amp this year with balls, with 50 plus good clean watts. Something like a KT-88 PP Ultralinear amp.

Any recommendation on kits or design. I'd prefer to work off of a schematic and build from scratch.

thanks,
Gar.

Can I recommend the KT88 amp in Vacuum Tube Valley ish 19?
Excellent UL Williamson-like design. I've heard the prototype, outstanding sound and loads of power.

Hi Garman; I wanted to tell you to check out TubesForHiFi site. He has a great PP KT-88 60 watt amp. If it is as good as the EL 84 that I built then you can't go wrong. I am now building his best pre-amp and let me say what you get for the money is outstanding. J.R.

I can't log in as me and haven't been around much 'cause I've just been listening to Ella. I recently added Auricaps, a TKD volume pot, Schottky diodes and a signal red paint job. 40 watts in ultralinear, 15 in triode. 6N1P drivers. 6CA7 EH Outputs. 90% of the SET
hear-into-the-venue sound and the push-pull dynamics and balanced, not rolled off, tone.

That's one good looking amp you have Bill!
I'll bet it sounds great too.

One thing I'm still stupid about is that I have not realize the value of kits. I always think I can build it better and cheaper than getting a complete kit. I still think I can build it as good or better from scratch, but rarely does it come out cheaper. At least I enjoy the process.

I ordered the back issue for that amp! Only thing holding me back is the cost of the trannies! I built bruce rosenblitz "70 watts of mcintosh power" amp from 1990 glass audio. An outstanding amplifier, push pull 6550, KT 88, KT 90, etc., but that VTV amp ha sgot my goat!
