I have a friend who has surround sound and he has them together on top of the TV stand. I keep telling him it makes no sense. The speakers are supposed to be placed around the room.

Yes, I agree that you have to really think about how you position your speakers because it has a huge impact on sound quality.

I usually try to put the speakers on the corners of the room so that the sound gets to travel without any obstructions. Then, I do some adjusting on the treble and bass for better enhancement.
