For a long time now, I have been thinking about housing all my audio and visual equipment in one corner unit. My problem is to know what size battens to use and what is the best wood for finish.

I really do not want to find that overtime it warps.

Why not draw up a plan with measurements for the space you want to use, and take it to wherever you plan to buy the lumber? I'm sure you can show someone there what you want to do and have them recommend a wood that's least likely to warp.
