Can anyone recommend a speech recoding microphone? I want to record people speaking in real situations cafés, marketplaces, restaurants with a view to creating language learning materials. I don't have a huge budget as this is a community funded project aimed at helping lower income immigrants into France (from Algeria and Romania mainly) get to grips with the language.

Adverser - thanks for your recommendation - I put it to my funding group here, the guy did some research and agreed with you and we got one on eBay France for €80 (about $108) our budget was €100 - so we're pleased.
