I love listening to public radio stations, but they are always aking for donations. A lot of them do regular pledge drives. Where does the money go? I can't possibly imagine that a local radio station would need that much money to operate.

Yeah, no doubt. I think there was a time when public radio and TV made sense but it has long since passed, what with all the digital stations around. Used to be there were three TV networks and a handful of local radio stations. Now there are literally hundreds. No more need for subsidized "public" radio and TV, in my opinion.
