I just noticed that Eric Barbour makes a TM-4 amplifier, and my interest is piqued. I had been thinking that Eric would probably make a great amplifier and/or kit, given his engineering expertise and experience with tubes and the tube industry. Lo and behold, he has one available already. Guess I should have asked; Just hadn't gotten around to it but it was in the back of my mind.

So Eric, please tell us more about it. Is this the same TM-4 listed on the Metasonix page at www.VacuumTube.com?

Yes. It is a true single-ended triode circuit using a triode connected 6BM8 per channel. The output transformer is the same one used in the Decware Zen amp.

Gee, nobody ever asks me about the TM-4, except the usual "can I use it to drive a 4x12 guitar speaker cab?" stupidity.

Sounds interesting. Do you have all the details worked out where you can sell them now? Do you have a chassis? If so, can you post a photo? If not, would you be interested in working with some of the craftsmen around here to develop an attactive chassis and making the amp "ready for prime time?"

Want to get it reviewed? [message #8356 is a reply to message #8354] Wed, 28 July 2004 06:06 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Eric,
I'll be very happy to review the amp if you have one. I just compared the zen to a push pull 6bm8. Comparing it to a SET mode 6bm8 would be great! My free, not-for-profit, totally advertising & logo free website is at:

Not for nothing but, I believe my initial mention should buy me first crack. In a fair and balanced world; that is.

I agree. He brought it up, he gets first crack. Of course, you need to put up a a formal review site first John...;-) kidding.

You're a gentleman and a scholar... and there are very few of us left! If I put up a site, do I have to pay Wayne or Sheri royalties?

I hope you're JOKING???
www.metasonix.com/TM4.htm

We've sold about 20 so far.

As far as a review....I will go with whomever can get
their review onto a website of some repute.

Akhilesh....you really need to get more aggressive about
promoting your site somewhere. I'd be willing to let you
try this one after John. Speaking of which....where is he?
