Here's an interesting ABC News documentary about discrimination against Muslim Americans. It emphasizes the fact that several of the participants confronted the store clerk who refused service to a Muslim American. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX5oxxv9Q1E

Now, if this link works ok, here's the version that's circulating in the Middle East. Notice any difference?

Seems like we have an overcompensation in America, a willingness to get beyond 9/11, almost bending over backwards to avoid conflict. I think most people will try to be fair here, maybe even more than fair. Sure, there are some who aren't, but that can definitely be said of both sides in any conflict between races or religions or any other ideology.

This Muslim/American thing has been going on ever since the Iranian students took American hostages in the 1970's. I guess even longer than that for the rest of the world, but for Americans, it has been ratcheting up since the 70's.

Now we have Black Panthers wanting to enter the fight too. Seems like some people just want to have something to bitch and fight about. If they don't have anything, they'll make something up.

What people need to remember is that not all terrorists are Muslim! Look at the Oklahoma bomber and the D.C. snipers. They were not Muslim. Yet it seems like when we think of terrorists all we think of are Muslims.

There are good and bad people in every race and religion. Not all Muslims hate Americans. Some are Americans themselves. Some are against they very things we label them as!

Well, sure, but that side-steps the issue. It is beside the point, and I would say naively, even dangerously beside the point. Of course, not all terrorists are Muslim. Of course!

But some are, and they should be racially profiled, in my opinion. If you see a guy in traditional Muslim attire with an angry look, watch him! Don't get all politically correct and ignore him, that's stupid. Same thing goes for a bizarrely focused white guy, a skinhead with Nazi tattoos. Or a black guy with gang colors, harassing people and giving attitude. All of these are the kinds of people that common sense and some natural street smarts would tell you to watch.

Common sense profiling should never be labeled as discrimination. Just like you can go too far one way, like locking up everyone of a certain nationality in an internment camp, you can also go too far the other way, overcompensating, and allowing unreasonable attitudes to be given too much attention. That's my opinion, anyway.

Many people just can't help but cringe when they see Muslims, and it's because of the fear that came out of what happened on 9/11. Now Muslims are being sterotyped the same way that others have been wrongly stereotyped through the ages. Unfortunately, it takes re-educating as these fears stem from ignorance. Ignorance, of course, meaning "not knowing". Many Americans question what Muslims are taught and what the general feeling towards America is. This was no small incident, so the "teaching" will not be easy, either.
