This might be in wrong post. I tried a long wire at 50foot . did not work well. Any advice on best way to run one. Ihave a old philco 11 tube . More tubes the higher but that would probaly be 160 foot. Any way to construct a antenna not going so high ? Rolling Eyes

Long wire antennas are pretty simple critters, really. The longer the better, the higher the better, the further away from objects (particularly metal) the better. You can also use a tuned antenna (of specific length) but if you're tuning shortwave, sometimes you really want a broadband general purpose longwire.
