I have LOTS of tapes and most are in good condition but some drag and some whistle. Does any of you know a service shop that can look at this? Is it the tape or the deck? It only happens on some tapes so I think it is the tape.
Are you guys going to make a tape room here? When I search for "tape" I get a page full so it seems like you should have one.

I've got some tapes that do that too, and I've always found it to be caused by the tape. Cassette tapes can sometimes be repaired by opening up the cassette, removing the tape spools, and installing in another cassette case. It's really handy to use a cassette case that is fastened with screws, as you don't have to worry about breaking it or getting glue on the spools.
