Hey MB, I just watched a news report on national news about the chase of a coyote in central park. I have to admit I laughed my ass off at a bunch of city boys trying to get a kyeoat, as it's prounouced around here.

That's Saturday nite entertainment here in the sticks. Pint of Jack, 3 coondogs, 30 yr old Ford F150 (de riegur for hunters) 2 guys and a couple of rifles.

Good coondogs sell for upwards of $500 around here.
I personally don't hunt, but have no problem with it.

P.S. I still need to get back to you on the freakonomics. I forgot all about it.

500$ Peope out here pay twice that for a little poodle dog. I just paid 400$ for a westie-poo. Yep; you heard right. For the wife; a mix of poodle and westhighland terrier. He would make a good meal for one of those coondogs. Across the street they bought a mix of Golden retriever and Poodle. They call it a golden-doodle and charged them 800$ for basically a mutt. The dog was sired on a farm in South Dakota; so all of you with big property; raising a herd of golden-doodles can be mighty profitable.
I saw the coyote dog thing; there are a lot of what they call coy-dogs upstate that are migrating south for food. Years ago they were importing coyotes to keep the deer population down and they mated with stray dogs. I don't think that guy on the news was a pure coyote.
But LC; it's nice to see you have other hobbies besides audio.

Actually, I wasn't quite correct on the breed. Greyhounds are the primary dog for coyote hunting. My Dad used to raise and race greyhounds, and they hate anything that's not human, including each other. Fight at the drop of a hat, which is why they're always muzzled. But they are wonderful with humans. Nothing like being 10 yrs old and having 20 dogs trying to lick you to death.

Dad raised a dog in the 40's (He worked for my Uncle's kennel), that became a world champion, is in the hall of fame. That dog would be worth a couple of million today.

in Mississippi for deer hunting. Those are some tough-running dogs. Once they spot the prey, they wont stop chasing it.
