Clever people,

I'm currently using a set of Russian 6П3С-E tubes in my Leben amplifier (as mentioned in an older thread here).

They sound good, but not as different from the stock Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC it came equipped with from the factory.

I'm planning to buy a few extra sets, though, and in that context, I came across several quads of 6П3С (no -E suffix) at a favorable price and with significantly older production dates and tube shape (1960s onwards).

According to Radiomuseum, the specs for 6П3С are as follows:
VA=250V, VG2=250V, VG1=-14V, IA=72mA, IG2=5V, S=6mA/V, K(µ)=150, Ri=25000Ω, Ra=2500Ω, Po=5.5W, P=20.5W, Capacité entre G/A=1pF

I find it difficult to interpret the datasheet for 6П3С-E (link to data on Radiomuseum).
Both types are said to be related to the 6L6G; 6L6GA; 6L6_DDR and 6Л6С, with 6П3С-E being the 'ruggedized' version of 6П3С.

Is there anyone who can shed some light on how different the two types of tubes are?

And whether there might be any risk associated with running an older set of 6П3С?

Thanks in advance,

Kasper

There's some discussion elsewhere (diyA) that the 6p3s-e can't be pushed to be a 6l6gc but rather should be treated as a straight "g" only.

Found a set of tiny plate curves digging in the wayback if you want to overlay and do all that. Didn't look that deep.

Here's a straight browser translation of the pinout if it helps any on the datasheet.

I say turn out the lights and see where they glow and back it off a bit Smile Nah--just fooling--no experience with them at all.

Sorry for the delayed response, had some issues logging in for the last couple of days.

Thank you for the 'detective work'. I think the safe choice is to go with the -E version.

The 70s production runs seem to be preferred by most.
