Might be my fav-or-ite Christmas tune forever. So much so I had to get the 45 to play it any old time I feel. Amos Milburn with his Chicken Shackers. Straight from the Big Easy. Christmas Comes But Once A Year.

That is old-school cool right there. It's fascinating how Christmas music can sound dated without sounding dated. It really is a timeless thing, isn't it?

What I like about old school, old r&b Christmas songs is the zing they put into an otherwise staid traditional sound. Don't get me started on my disdain of, The 12 Days Of Christmas. That one I've hated since grade school. Whew! Having to endure in music class an endless chorus of that song ruined me ever wanting to hear it again.
How bout old Satchmo and Zat You, Santa Clause?

Well, that was a fun ride. Perfect music for Christmas parties. Traditionally done traditional music is stale to me, but I do like to hear popular artists do their own personal take on them.

I think our popular culture is as wide and deep enough to make a little fun of the holiday cheer as well. There's been some movies made to exploit a bit of "dark" Christmas themes in the cheesy horror realm. Even the Griswold's Christmas comedy had an underlying theme of family holiday get togethers not being the rosy wholesome gathering usually depicted.
I heard this little number several years back, and it's perversely stuck with me for this time of year. Not your average Christmas song. Western Caravan, Psycho Santa.

The link you provided starts with my all-time favorite Christmas song! I remember when I was a kid and my parents used to play that song all the time almost throughout the whole holiday season. It definitely brings back some sweet memories Smile

Speaking of which, this version performed by Mariah Carey is my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEJmP8T07JU

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I am not a really big fan of Mariah Carey, but I do like that song very much as well. I really love this time of year and the spirit it brings with it.

I don't have a favorite Christmas song! I love all Christmas music! Wow! Some of these were great songs that I hadn't heard yet. I love country Christmas music the best!

I know I'm going to get burned for this one, but one of my favorite Christmas songs is Mariah Carey's, All I Want for Christmas Is You. She might be a drama queen, but the lady can sing!
