The wind is blowing hard right outside my window. There are trees outside and the wind is whistling through the trees. For some reason I thought "Is this how someone thought of the idea of a flute?"

Ever have thoughts like that before? Where you make a connection like that?

I can't say that I have, but that is a rather neat connection you made. Wood.....wind....it makes sense to me. I'm still wondering who thought of what in order to make the first string instrument.

Yes! I can play a few instruments and I know the inspiration behind them, but I'm still convinced that the drums and cymbals were inspired by a little kid banging away on stuff during ancient times. I bet it drove parents crazy back then too.

Percussion would have been relatively easy to "invent". Hitting sticks on various objects making different sounds would have been a fun thing to discover I imagine.

It does seem easy to annoy parents.
I am guilty of just that lol.

Percussion is not necessarily easy to do well though.

I always loved watching our old friend Bernard Purdie and his silly laugh!
Playing a five piece set is pretty much his style of dancing.

At around 3:50 he breaks into his famous "Purdie shuffle"-

This is so interesting to think about! I've got one. How did someone figure out how to use grass to make duck calls? People are so creative and inventive, and it never ceases to amaze me Surprised
