I was shopping for more audio cables recently and came across gold tipped ones. The guy at the store said they're better than the cheapest audio cables they sell. Is this true or was he just trying to up his commission?

I've had both before and I couldn't tell a difference in sound quality, however the gold ones did last longer than the cheap ones that usually come with whatever you're buying.

For the price difference, I would probably still go with the cheapest ones I could find.

Gold ones generally do last longer; I have heard it is because the gold oxidizes at a slower rate. That said, I usually don't splurge on gold-tipped cables.
