I just got finished looking over ARRL's site and it looks pretty interesting. Does anyone here know more about it from a personal or professional standpoint? Any real life experiences with that organization?

Hi, It used to be a big deal a long time ago when communications were more primitive - no cell phones, not sat phones and such. Since then they have played important roles often in conjunction with search and rescue groups.

Good Listening

Maybe I've been into the newer aspects of audio for so long now, but I've never heard of them 'till now. The search and rescue aspect of it makes sense, and I can see collectors being involved with something like this as well.
