Hi Wayne,

I thought I'd start working on the cabinets while waiting for the horns and crossovers.
I'd like to set the H290C in a recessed cutout. Is there any way to get proper dimensions for this?

Thank you.

The outside dimensions of the H290C are 11.63" wide x 6.56" tall x 5.90" deep. Most of it is 0.25" thick, although some portions are thicker. The front "lip" is 0.25" thick; Driver mounting bracket is a little thicker. Corners are radiused at 0.8". That's what you would cut into the baffle with a router for a flush mount.

Hi, Egads, how did they come up with those dimensions? Neither a standard US nor metric?

Laughing It does seem odd dimensions at first glance, but they're really not so weird - I just wrote them in decimals and rounded to the hundredths. If Жека will be routing flush, he'll likely add 0.1" anyway. That way it won't have to be tapped in or pried out.

But said in fractional inches, the dimensions are 11-5/8" wide x 6-9/16" tall and 1/4" thick.

I wanted to make the baffle cutout an exact match for the old H290 horn so the H290C would be a bolt-on upgrade for existing speaker owners. The H290C fits right in the same router groove, so flush mounted speakers won't have to be rebuilt. No change to bolt-pattern either. The baffle cutout has to be made slightly larger, because for performance reasons, the H290C requires a 10.5" x 5" baffle cutout. But that can be accomplished with just a few strokes of a four-in-hand, rasp or file. It fits right in.

Thanks for the info, it never occurred to me that they use fractional inches.

The dimensions don't really have anything to do with Cyrillic. Russians use metric measurements for the most part, but the H290C dimensions weren't affected by that. They aren't metric measurements.

They are sort of oddball dimensions, I guess, not a major multiple of a half-inch or something like that. But again, I wanted to make the H290C be a drop-in replacement for the older H290, which it supercedes.

Wayne,

If I want to flush mount, should I use 1" MDF panel for the front baffle or 3/4" panel is adequate in your opinion? Given that the recess is 1/4" deep.

Thanks again!
