Hi,

I'm doing research on some DIY designs... Looking at the 4Pi

If the "B&C DE250-8 1" Polyimide Horn Driver 8 Ohm 2/3-Bolt" is used should the Horn = "B&C ME45 1" Exponential Horn 90x40 2-Bolt" be used?

Thanks,
andy

Hi,

I thought I'd clarify what I'm asking. The Horn I mentioned above is what I saw that seemed to match up to the horn driver from B&C and is made by B&C. I guess I was thinking it would make sense to get the B&C horn if I was to get the B&C DE250. I was thinking the Horn is designed for the driver I guess.

This B&C horn is 90 X 40. I think the one Wayne sells for the 4Pi is his H290C which is a 90 degree flare. Wayne has his H290C and it is 90X45 I think...

I guess I like the idea of the B&C one being made of cast aluminum

I am just putting this in as I want to get the best combo and looking for thoughts. I'd prefer to buy from wayne and not the big companies online.

I've used the DE-250 with Altec 811B, Bill's Woodhorn and now the H290. With one important caveat, the H290 sounds best but you must completely cover the outside surfaces of the horn with rope caulk, a.k.a., Mortite.

I looked into the B&C horn you mention but passed not just because it differs from Wayne's design, especially important with the no-longer-new crossover, but for the issues I had with the also aluminum, 811B. No damping or cutting of vanes kept it from over-emphasizing the upper mids.

The idea of wrapping a damper layer of mortite around the outer surface of the H290C horn makes sense. I'll use the H290C.

The H290C looks in photos the same as the B&C and I thought both the H290 and the B&C one I mentioned were 90 X 40 (same).

I'll use the tested one from Wayne.
