Going to cut the panels tomorrow and thinking about room size and the width of the veneer I wrote about.

You know, Bill, I don't think that will hurt you too much. At least the reduction down from 13" to 12" depth. The 16" to 18" width change might be better dialed back though, maybe just go to 17" instead.

You know how paranoid I get when people start changing stuff, thinking we might accidentally run into a standing wave node or something. That's because a few years back, I noticed a couple guys (one right after the other) make seemingly innocent mods that caused fairly significant problems in the response curve. That's when I started telling people to "watch it" with the mods, or at least got a little more vocal about it. But the change of an inch in the width and the depth on that model probably can't get you into any trouble.

I'm talking 12" Wide, 18" Deep.

With respect to internal standing waves, I don't care whether the speaker is turned sideways with the narrow dimension being used as the face. The standing waves will line up the same. The port is going to be on the narrow side though, and I would probably be a little more concerned about that, since it is now in a different position with relation to the boundaries, making it a little more germane.

The height dimension is the most critical, with the woofer and port position along that axis being most important. But yeah, the little stuff can add up on you, so the further you get from the stock design, the more important it is to verify with measurements or at least simulate it with a really good mathematical model.

Well, you know me....the only mathematical model I understand graphs as an Hourglass, preferably Brunette.

I'll figure another way to use this 12" wide cherry which you have to see to appreciate.

How about a stripe of something even better or contrasting down the middle or sides?

Great minds!

I have a design on paper right now with 2" of hardwood framing the MDF portion of the baffle. That makes the 12" veneer work and allows easy round-over of the corners.

Only problem is I'm less than enthused about framing this veneer, even with solid gold. It's that breath-taking!

This framed design worked out pretty well, though; anyone remember this:

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the two-tone look. Gotta do it, Bill, for sure!
