It seems like many people of built these speakers, so I am hoping to receive feedback on what grills best serve these cabinets. Thanks in advance!

I like to avoid grilles when I can, because they create a reflection that makes self-interference and response ripple. That said, sometimes they're a necessary evil. I have a 4-year-old, so I'm running grilles right now. Confused

For home hifi, I like to use a recessed framed grille because I think it looks good. Foam is also attractive, and can be attached with Velcro.

Another place I've installed them is at clubs, where I prefer a metal mesh, something like this:

I don't know that I will need grills for the LCR 4pis. However, I am nearly certain I will need to do something for the 1pi surrounds. Perhaps I should worry about the grills after I have the surrounds built...unless there are design considerations I have to keep in mind when initially building the cabinets.

I use grilles like that in club installs. Pretty much have to.

I saw you mentioned that, and I associated our application as being similar to a club install. I just wasn't sure if these would work well, or if I should consider different ones. I thought these looked pretty slick.

Btw...the 1pi components arrived today. Smile

When you do use grills like that in club installs, do you only cover the woofer, or are you also covering the tweeter? If you are also covering the tweeter, what are you going so with? Thanks again for the feedback. I get some of the best customer service here Smile

FYI: This is what my 1pis look like with just gravity holding the drivers in place. 12 does not seem like a big number until you have gone through a crap load of sandpaper making them nice and plumb.

That speaker looks great! I have some black one π speakers too, but I cheated and veneered them in formica.

I've only ever had to cover the midwoofer for club installs, because they've all been three π, four π and hornsubs. The drivers aren't exposed on the hornsubs, and the compression drivers on the mains have a screen. So only the midwoofer needs a grille.

I do have one commercial install that uses constant directivity cornerhorns in all four corners - a fairly small, intimate dance hall - but cornerhorns don't need grilles. We discussed using a side grille on the bass bins, but in the end, the owner decided against them. Turns out, they weren't needed, 'cause there's never been a problem. Tame crowd, little chance of foreign objects making their way to the woofer cone.

Looks nice!

We need to get some silver logos for you. We always include black logos in the kits, unless otherwise specified. I guess we should probably tell people to let us know when they plan to build 'em black so we can send out silver logos instead.
