I just want to share what I found while scouting for some cool gadgets. It's the Rubik's Cube speaker. It's powered by USB and it has an audio cable which is used to connect the speaker to any sound source. It has the famous cube's form, but it's not something that you can turn or flip and solve! Very Happy

Nice, Wayne!

I like the speaker too but then, sadly, I am a nerd. I wonder how it sounds though. Novelty speakers often are more about looks than quality.

Being able to solve the puzzle would make it way nerdier and thus cooler. Too bad about that. Maybe you could have input between two stickers into the interior and leave outside free to manipulate. Maybe not.

Form follows function, and the purpose of this speaker is to be the cutest and coolest monaural speaker that requires no external amplification, can be connected to an Ipod or MP3 player, and can be sold for $29.99. It performs this function exceptionally well.

But if the function is changed, and the revised purpose is to be the best-sounding stereo speaker pair that can be sold for $29.99, I would vote for the Parts Express Dayton Audio B652 speaker. Actually, the B652 is regularly $34.50, and it is $30 only when it's on sale, which is often.

The Rubiks cube is a single 3-1/2" cube. The B652 is a pair of 11-13/16" x 7-1/16" x 6-7/16" speakers with a 6.5" woofer and a separte tweeter. The crossover consists of a 3uF electrolytic cap in series with the tweeter and the woofer runs full range. Because of this crude and inadequate crossover the response is ragged, and there's no bass below 70hz, but if you have some kind of amplifier to power it, and sound is more important to you than coolness the B652 is a better choice.

Here's a review (when this was written it was on sale for $25): http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-20005175-47.html?tag=mncol;1n

That's nice! I don't recall every hearing about Rubik's Cube speakers. They would be a great novelty piece. I will have to see if I can find a set on eBay. Most novelty items are just for show, and the quality is not that great. Still, they would be a nice showpiece.

That is one nifty-looking speaker. I'm not much of a "nerd" is the Rubik's Cube sense myself, but I still think it looks cool, it's nicely designed and close to the real thing. As some of you said, though, its sound quality probably isn't too great, but it probably would be a nice thing for show. Like probably a cool accessory for a room, which decently works, too. I have yet to find a really good speaker myself but I don't like spending too much money, so these mini speaker type ones usually suffice for me.

What a quirky and wonderful find! It's pretty amazing how just about anything can be turned into a speaker, from Pringles cans to boats. I wonder what the sound quality is on a speaker so small, though?
