I need a headphone that I can listen to my music but also be able to hear my wife if she needs me. She is sick right now and I don't want to miss her calling me if it's necessary. Is there a headphone that will allow this?

Any of those that use open cell foam cushions should work. The headphones that cup your ears with sealed pads block sound, but the ones that just loosely rest on your ears with open cell foam don't.

Wayne is correct. Those will work perfect for you. If you're sitting in a dedicated listening spot there are a handful of full sized headphones that are open backed. I have a pair of AKG 240S cans that I like quite well.

Thanks Wayne, I haven't gotten back to the forum to report but I did buy a basic pair for right now with the foam ear pads on it. As a matter of fact I just went with the cheapest ones I could find because it's going to be a temporary situation.

I think that going for the cheapest is the best option for now. If you aren't looking for a permanent solution then there isn't much point spending a heap.

This is good information to know even for us parents that have trouble with our kids not hearing us.

I truly hope your wife feels better soon and I think you are wonderfully considerate to think of this.
