I've used both the H290 and the Peavey CH-3.
Both are good horns, both provide a good pattern and smooth response. However, the Peavey horn has a peculiar seam and throat shape that I initially thought would be a problem - it proved not to be, and instead, the CH-3 was an extremely good horn both by measurements and by ear. The H290 is a good horn too, but its smaller size requires it to be limited to use above 1.2kHz or so - not a problem since all my designs cross it at this point or higher. It is a one piece design with nice flare profile and smooth transition from throat to mouth.
The H290 has always been used in my speakers smaller than 3ft3 but I thought larger speakers looked better with the CH-3, so that's what I used to put in the big boxes like the Theater fours. It's a mute point now, since these cabinets have been discontinued for years, and all current models use the H290 or my own wood horn.
After living with both the CH-3 and H290 horns, I think the H290 is a smidge smoother but that may be just because I think it should be by looking at it. It's definitely not night and day, maybe not even different shades of grey. Could be six one way and half dozen the other, they're that close in sound. But I do tend to prefer the H290, for whatever that's worth.
