Currently have a Pi 4 that has been modded three times to accomodate differet drivers. The speakers are currently loaded with JBL 2446 compression drivers and JBL 2226 woofers.

I'm looking for a new cabinet design that could leverage these drivers. I believe the simple answer to the following question is yes, perhaps, but would require some cabinet redesign and significant cross-over changes.

Question 1:
Could the Pi 7s Corner Horn be reconfigured to accomodate the JBL 2446 plus horn? The JBL 2226 are already included in Wayne's design. The magnet for the JBL 2446 is 30 lb.s plus, and the drivers are over the top cool however impractical they may be for home audio.

Question 2:
JBL's offers really great drivers and since they don't have a 10 in. driver that I am aware of, is it out of the question to use the JBL 2206 (12 in) for the mid-range driver?

Thanks

I've used the 2206 as a midbass driver, and it's a great part but won't work properly in the π midhorn. You probably can find a JBL 2012 or 2123 in good shape, and those work well. As for compression drivers and horns, I suggest going with JBL 2426 if you want a speaker with all JBL drivers. The 2226/2012/2426 combination is very nice.

The problem with using the large format driver isn't just the fact that the larger driver doesn't have quite the HF extension. Even if that weren't the case, the horns used with them are necessarily different sizes too. The geometry is wrong for the existing crossover, so you would have to redesign. I've gone to great lengths to set the crossover points right so directivity is uniform at the crossover points and the null angles are outside the pattern. That's not a trivial task.

Thanks Wayne.

Could you send me a copy of 7 Pi plans?
