After a few weeks of hard work, my 3 pi is basically complete. While it is not the most accurate speakers, it sounds very nice and well balanced - heaps of fun. I really look forward to drive it with a SET amp, which was why I built them in the first place.

Just a couple of photos to share with you - my wood working skill is very bad so it is not the niciest looking speakers (you will probably think it is ugly). But hey, this is my first pair and it is fun to DIY!

Finally, thank you so much for Wayne's support. Thanks for going the extra mile and help me right down to screw selection. Your customer service is second to none in the industry.

Looks nice (and link added) [message #52014 is a reply to message #52011] Wed, 16 April 2008 09:23 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I have had lots of much much uglier speakers over the years.
Problem is, when a speaker sounds good, it is hard to pull it out of the system and finish it

Can you provide more more info. on your DIY bass trap ?

Nice work! Thanks for posting the photos!

If you have access to acoustic measurement equipment, I encourage you to do some sweeps to measure response and distortion on and off axis and compare speakers with one another. You might be surprised.

The DIY bass trap shown in the photo is simple a bag of Pink Batt fibrglass insulation (still in plastic bag) wrapped in fabric (according to Jon Risch Receipe). I have built another two bass trap (at first reflection point) using polyester insulation and wire mesh etc. Too much work and too little gain so a bag of insulation is probably the best value.

Thanks for adding the link. I am not too sure at this stage yet, but I am considering Sun Audio 6V6 or 2A3 amps, Transcendent SET OTL or Decware Zen. I would like to build a Kit rather than buy an amp, if possible.

Any recommendations?

I like the Audio Note kits and the Stoetkits. Also liked the Ella from DIYhifiSupply.

Unfortunately, Audio Note is too expensive for me at the moment. I may save up some money and get one later.

Has anyone tried the Sun Audio Kits?
