Approx 6' tall cabinet with JBL 2226's top and bottom with mid-horn in-between and a tweeter somewhere.

Sounds like you're up to something really cool. You'll want to use Martin King's spreadsheets, possibly in addition with others, in order to model it properly. That way you can investigate possible layouts before cutting wood. I expect you'll find certain driver placements and crossover configurations that work very well and produce a nice response curve. If you get serious about it, let me know and I'll look it over with you.

Bill, if the two 2226 don't go deep enough for you, you may have to augment your 6' tall cabinets with a pair of Wayne's 12-PI's.

One 2226 per side gives me great quality bass. You should hear string bass on the 45 amps!
What I'm after is 8 ohms with 2 "J's" per side (which I already have) for higher efficiency to go with the approx 105dB of the JBL 2123 on mid-horn and Altec 902's.
Then the DRD 45's can really do their thing.

I don't know how close the 2226's would be physically to each other, but with the 4648 cabinets there is a destructive interference at 817hz which means crossing over below 800hz.

Since you are running the midhorn starting at around 300hz, I would say you would be pretty safe there. What crossover are you using for the pair of 2226's? Single coil won't cut it as the 2226 is a high inductance driver, might need a 2nd order here????? Maybe Wayne will chime in on this!

Bill, I was trying to poke fun at you about the size of the speakers. It was late, I was tired and didn't do a very good job.

BTW, what's with the recent quest for large speakers. There was a recent interest in A7's. Wayne's building his 12-PI. And now you're looking at a six-footer. My 5 cu ft cabinets are starting to look like bookshelves.

Hi Bill,

Here's my current setup. It's similar to what you are proposing. I'd be interested in going vertical with it, in a wmttw arrangement. I've been toying around with the idea of replacing the 2226's with a single 2245, though the dual 2226's sound phenomenal with a little tweaking from the Richter Scale III e.q. I'm running 2123's in the midhorns, 2426's on the 2370's and 2404's up top. The three horns are powered by Paraglow II's with cobalt trannies and Mundorf Silver & Oil caps as well as the usual little mods. Woofers get solid state. It's about the best I've heard, including the big rigs at MAF O3'. Please keep me posted on the status of the project. I'd be interested in what you and Wayne come up with.

I took the liberty of looking up the photos directory from your link:

Yahoo disables direct linking to image files on their servers, so the picture doesn't display in your message. But the link below lets people see the photo.

That's one nice looking setup!

Thanks Wayne,

It loaded okay with my computer so I didn't consider the file linking issue with yahoo. You have some experience with the 2245 woofers. What do you think about the a single 2245 vs. a pair of slightly equalized 2226's?
Thanks for your help along the way, many of your ideas were implemented in this build. The end result was better than I could have expected!

The 2226 is excellent as a midwoofer, but I like the 2245 better for subwoofer use.
