Can someone who has heard the Deltalite 12 or 15-inch driver and other Eminence drivers make a comment on whether the Delta's are good compared to their higher-end models? Obviously there will be compromises...

Thanks
-Henry

They're pretty good, but midrange response is reduced because of the lack of a radiating dust cap.

...Awhile back I mentioned that I had enjoyed the effect of adding a layer of a felt like material to the dustcaps of my Delta 15A's. I experienced a cleaning up of the midrange (from what I don't really know). Could this be due to reduced midrange responce similar to what your talking about here?

Could be, it's hard to say. On the Eminence drivers without a radiating dust cap, midrange output is significantly reduced.

Which Eminence drivers have and don't have the cap you are refering to?

The Magnums and the neodymium drivers have mesh dust caps, so they don't radiate any sound.

Hi Wayne,

Given the reduced midrange output, what would the optimum Crossover be for these drivers?

They're all different, but I don't use any of them as midrange or midwoofers. I don't think the Magnums are suitable for two-way systems, they must be used with mids. The neodymium parts must be crossed over to mids pretty low too.

So they are more suitable as 3-ways, or if used as a 2-way, the tweeter must be able to be crossed low. Maybe 800Hz? That woud be out of line with you design paramiters of keeping the crossover out of the voice range.

Thanks for the response,

Dave

The neodymium 2510 can be crossed over at 1kHz, even on the midhorn. But I'm crossing the Magnums lower than that, and using them purely as woofers.
