I'm very happy with my Studio 2's, but I have noticed the alpha 10 bottoming out a bit at louder volumes (bass heavy music). Could the speaker be damaged from being played loudly with bass, even though my amp is only 80 Watts per side and sounds clean all the way up.

Yes, if you're bottoming out the suspension, you can damage the driver. Better turn down the bass a bit or get a bigger speaker.

Time to look for a 4 Pi system if you are hitting the Alpha 10" that hard!

Go to a JBL 2226 for a driver that will handle that all day long and won't break a smile.
