After much sanding during the weekend, I did get a chance to drag my Theatre3's into the laundry room last week for finishing. One coat of tung oil per day for a total of five coats. You can get an amazing finish with this oil with very little effort and skills, provided you have the patient to not rush through it. This means spending as little at 15 minutes a day, wiping on a very thin coat over the cabinet and not touching it for 24 hours. First coat requires a soaking, but as long as each coat is wiped down properly, you’re guaranteed a smooth finish.

The stuff I used was Lee Valley’s High Luster Polymerized Tung Oil. After the forth coat, I got what looked like a lacquered finish. Pretty cool, but not what I was looking for. Applying the final coat with #0000 steel wool knocked it down to the semi-gloss I wanted.

Gar.

Nice work G-Man; I don't think it gets any better than that! Now please, a nice and thorough review of the sound.

Very classic - an enduring style.

Thomas' statement below hits it right on the head. I get too impatient to hear them and don't take the time and care that makes the difference between "homemade" and "custom".

Good work Gar!
