Still listening to my 3677s/811b/2226J kludges. The Towers may be finished sometime in 2008. But I got a pair of the Ksn piezos to try as ambience tweets on the towers and hooked them up to the Altecs just now. They're sitting on the pillow behind the bells of the horns and firing up. I can hear the greater high freq extensions as airier and the image has changed. Suppose there will be some break in issues, but,
I like it!

when the wife came home one day, and complained about the T-35's I had turned around to face the wall, she said the magnets facing the listener looked "wrong". Don't need no stinkin' supertweeter anyway...Sam

The Altecs have that treble bump, and while the increased size of the soundstage and air is nice, it's too much of a good thing. Sigh.
Is there a cheap silk dome or other tweet with the same
"no- crossover-needed" characteristics as the Piezo?

The piezo is more like a cap so it's self protecting itself. They come with "shields up Scotty"

You'll turn a silk dome into burlap with out a cap.

so why not just put a cap in front of the silk dome and you will have a 1 part XO. no biggy, especially if you want only super tweet response out of it. I dont think your going to hear the nasty colorations to sound from a 1.5uF cap crossing you over at 10k

if you do I'll start calling you BATman

your friend
