Hey everyone.

I originally wanted the JBL 2226H to cover 70Hz-300Hz just as a direct radiator (I think it is suitable for this range). These drivers cost a lot though, but I've found something that might work, so I will ask here first.

I can get JBL 2225 basket/diaphrams. I can't get any 2225H recones though, but I can get some non-genuine JBL 2226H recone kits. Will these fit in the 2225H baskets? If so, will it then technically be a 2226H? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

BTW: How good are the aftermarket/non-genuine recones? Are they much the same as the originals? I can get ONE original recone here in Australia, but I need a pair so I would get a pair of non-originals (they are also a bit cheaper).

Thanks!
Adrian

Hi....The 2226 won't fit a 2225 basket but a 2235H uses the same 15" frame as the 2225, so that could be a option. The 2235H was used in a lot JBL studio monitors. It's power handling is no where near that of the 2226 but their intended uses are very different.

Thanks for the info. Shame I cant get the 2235H recones in Australia though, looks like I'll wait around until some cheap 2226H's come along.

BTW: What do you think of the 2220A?

Thanks!

IMO, for home speakers, you would be better off having the 2225 reconed to a 2235, than getting a 2226. Look around one the internet for some 2235 recone kits and have them shipped to you "surface" mail. it will take about 4 to 6 weeks but the rate is very inexpensive. I've never had any problems shipping to Australia with surface mail.

Hey Bill. Sounds like a good idea. I can actually get the 2235H recone in Australia, but its a HUGE $395 !!!!!!! each!!! I think I'll wait till its on eBay US hopefully its cheaper :)

BTW: 2235H has larger excursion than 2225H, will it have the same larger excursion even though its in a 2225H basket?

Thanks!

If you put a 2235H cone in a 2225 frame it will be a bonifide 2235H....the frames are one and the same....good luck.
