Check out the Paramours- great match! Kits that are easy to build, great price for the quality, and sound great with these speakers.

I plan on building some SET's myself. Just waiting on the money and deciding which one (SET) I will go with. I was thinking of the Paramours but I may do something a bit more powerful.

I plan on matching with the Theater 4 or 7, it is a bit difficult to pass on the 2Pi Towers since they sound pretty darn good, ecpecially for the cost of about $300.00 complete. I do like the extra sensitivity of the Theater series. I just hope they sound as good, I know most here will recomend them over the Studio Series but I stiil like the philosophy and sound of a speaker with no XO. I will probably change my mind once I build the Theater speakers.

Speakerman and I tried the 2's I built with Dynaco ST-70, Paramours Wave 8's and Norh something mono blocks. Paramours were sweet sounding as you'd expect but they put out a surprisingly high quality bass. In fact, that stupid Alpha 10" is very good down low.Waves were flat, lifeless, anemic. need some caps and things. The Norhs were better but very sold state-y. Kept coming back to the Dynacos: great bass control, clean and power ful mids and well balnced top.
I'm thinking any quality 20 to 30 watt EL-84 or EL-34 or such is just right. Or maybe something tubey and vintage like a Counterpoint or bedini 25/25.

Thanks for the rundown on the amp sampling. The Paramours are still in the running but I am looking at other kit amps. I am interested in something more powerfull so I can use to drive some less sensitive speakers down the road (maybe even bi-amping). I want to do the kit thing for the reason of learning more about tube and amps, I also have experience the fun of building something myself from the 2Pi Towers (simple as they were).
Till E you areKitch29? Man i didn't know! I enjoyed your A-gon posts... [message #39949 is a reply to message #39947] Sat, 18 January 2003 18:35 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Hi! I'm not sure what you meant by the 'running out of space' remark on your post, but if you're referring to physical space for speakers, you might consider building a pair of 2pi that are something in between 2pi regulars & 2pi towers, size wise. With measurements (H*W*D) 40" * 13.6" * 12" you will get an internal volume of about 2½ cb.ft. & bass down to ~50Hz (-3dB) when the box is tuned to 40Hz. These will be floor standers, but somewhat smaller & less obtrusive than the towers. Just my 2 cents. :)
