I have just completed a pair of theater 4pi. It does sound wonderful.
I put them in corners and the stereo image is precise. A soloist voice
appears to come from a precise point between the loudspeaker. The
soundstage is large also. Other speakers that I have built in the past
did not have this kind of precise stereo image when put in corners.
I have one question about the heat being dissipated by the power
resistor used in the woofer compensation circuit. How hot can it get?
I screwed it against the back wall behind the woofer. If I put
insulation over it , would it overheat and fail or even cause a fire?
I am paranoid about this because these speakers will serve as speakers
for our church organ and will be isolated by themselves in a darkened
sound box without anybody paying any attention to them.

Thanks

Great to hear that you've completed your speakers! And I'm really happy you're enjoying them!!!

About R1/R2 in the crossover circuit. I usually mount the crossover to the inside of the speaker cabinet, occasionally within a stand-alone crossover box. You can see the power curve on page 71 of the π Crossover document. The resistor doesn't get very hot at all. I don't know a specific temperature rise but I can assure you that it won't overheat and fail when covered by insulation.

They're designed for abuse such as this. Run 'em hard.

I'm confident they will work well for you and your church, day in and day out, for decades.

Thanks Wayne for your reassuring words about the heat generated.
Our church organ committee is impressed also with the 4pi and if
everythings goes well, I will be asked to build either at least one
more pair or may be even 2 more pairs!

Glad you like them. We've got plenty, so just let me know when you need more.
